The American National Biography, a standard source for U.S. historical biography, includes over 17,400 biographies. The ANB Online is fully searchable and includes illustrations, cross-references, and links to external web sites, not available in the printed version (1999). Full text, "Occupations & Realms of Renown", birth/death date, place of birth, and contributor searches are available. ANB Online is considered a successor to the Dictionary of American Biography. The online version also includes many new articles on persons omitted from the printed version or deceased since 1995.
